The transition period for the ban on firefighting foams containing PFOA ends on 4th July 2025. By then, all PFOA-based foams, whether in fixed systems or portable extinguishers, must be removed from use. Read the full guidance to understand exactly what’s changing, what’s exempt, and how to stay compliant.

The transition period for the ban on the use of firefighting foams containing PFOA ends of 4th July 2025. Any fixed system or portable fire extinguisher using PFOA based foam should have been replaced by this date.

The ban is not a blanket ban on all fluorinated firefighting foams (including AFFF), those not based on PFOA can continue to be used.

Any firefighting foam supplied within the last 10 years is not impacted by the ban as it will not contain PFOA.
