Designed to combine classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience, the course equips delegates with a thorough understanding of the standards, legislation and maintenance procedures required to ensure hose reels remain safe, compliant and ready for use in the event of a fire.

The one-day programme is suitable for anyone involved in the maintenance of fire protection equipment. While no previous experience is required, delegates who have shadowed or worked alongside a competent engineer will benefit from this additional experience.

Throughout the course, delegates will explore the legislation and standards relating to hose reels, including the application of BS EN 671-3 and relevant aspects of BS EN 671-1. The programme also examines where BS 5306-1 influences servicing requirements, the potential risks associated with maintenance activities, and the importance of ensuring work is carried out without compromising fire safety within the premises.

A key feature of the course is the practical training element, where delegates will gain valuable hands-on experience maintaining hose reels before completing both a theory and practical assessment.

On successful completion, delegates will receive an FIA Certificate, alongside a comprehensive course manual that can be used as a practical reference in the workplace.

As the practical assessment involves working with water, delegates are required to attend with appropriate PPE, including safety footwear, a hard hat, safety glasses and suitable work clothing that may become wet or dirty. Gloves are recommended.
