At our 2nd AGM, in March 1919, a member suggested that details of all fires known to be successfully extinguished should be sent to the Secretary with a view to publication of the benefits of chemical extinguishers.
Unfortunately the results are not recorded. In 2003, the Fire Industry Association (FIA) carried out a survey into the usage of portable fire extinguishers, which showed that 80% of the fires fought with them were successfully extinguished and that in 75% of cases there was no need to call the Fire and Rescue services. This exercise was repeated in 2008 and provided further supporting data for these statistics.
