Urgent safety notice: check your tumble dryer today

Households with certain tumble dryers manufactured by Haier are being urged to check whether their appliance requires an urgent safety repair due to a risk of fire.

The issue affects specific models of integrated heat-pump tumble dryers. In affected appliances, an internal short circuit can occur during normal operation, which may cause the tumble dryer to ignite.

Owners should immediately check the model and serial number of their appliance using the manufacturer’s online checker. If the appliance is affected, the manufacturer must be contacted without delay to arrange a safety repair.

Affected appliances must not be used until the repair has been completed. Where the plug is accessible, the appliance should be switched off and unplugged.

Earlier this year, Haier began a corrective action programme covering approximately 103,000 machines. This programme was temporarily halted following intervention by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) due to concerns over unsafe modifications. The programme has now resumed, and Haier has begun contacting affected consumers again.

The following brand names are included in the recall:

Baumatic

Candy

Caple

Haier

Hoover

Iberna

Lamona

Montpellier

Households are strongly advised to stop using affected appliances immediately, check whether their tumble dryer is impacted, and contact the manufacturer if it is.

This update is based on regular reporting provided by Haier to the Office for Product Safety and Standards.
