The latest addition to the suite of specification tools from fire safety products specialist, Sprue Safety Products, is set to make life easier for specifiers by creating a tailored product specification for mains and battery powered smoke and heat alarms in just three minutes.

Designed to help anyone involved in specification and procurement, the company’s new online Specification Generator is now live at: http://www.sprue.com/specgenerator/

The quick and simple five-step process guides users through residential property types, levels of detection, system grades, mains or battery power and alarm technologies with visual prompts, help sections and suggestion ‘pop-up’ boxes providing advice throughout the process.

Each option is accompanied by a brief description at the bottom of the screen, enabling the user to make an informed decision.

At the end of the process, a pre-written specification document tailored around the choices made can be downloaded as a Word document. This information can then be copied and pasted directly into a specification tender.

The site has been specially designed to be used on tablets and smart phones - where a pdf can be viewed at the end of the process – and in conjunction with Sprue’s printed specification guide.

New products will be added as and when they become available and a dedicated carbon monoxide alarm Specification Generator will be available later in the year.

Ian Ballinger, product manager at Sprue Safety Products, commented: “Our new Specification Generator is a great aid to anyone involved in the specification and procurement process. Every product detail and supporting information is presented clearly and simply to provide an immediate recommendation for individual project requirements. Users can be assured of the reliability of the end result, as it links seamlessly with UK building regulations and BS 5839: Part 6. This is an invaluable boost for specifiers who face increasing pressures on their time.”
