All boroughs sign-up to online checker

24 May 2018

A year after it was launched, the Mayor of London’s office has announced that all the capital city’s councils will now participate in the online Rogue Landlord and Agent Checker

Prospective tenants will be able to search a database to see if a landlord or agent which operates in the 32 boroughs has been convicted for one or more of 61 offences, which include prosecutions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.

The Checker currently lists private landlords and letting agents who have been prosecuted or fined by the London Boroughs of Brent, Camden, Greenwich, Islington, Kingston, Newham, Redbridge, Southwark, Sutton, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Westminster, but now all local authorities have said they will participate.

It also includes information about landlord and agent offences submitted by the London Fire Brigade and the two letting agent consumer monitoring schemes - The Property Redress Scheme and The Property Ombudsman.

As well as the name of the landlord or agent, the conviction information on the register includes the enforcement authority, the address relating to the conviction, the offences, the amount of the fine, the date of enforcement and when the record expires.
