New Consultation: Review of Approved Document B (Fire Safety Guidance)
The government has published a new consultation on proposed changes to Approved Document B (ADB), the statutory fire safety guidance supporting the Building Regulations in England.
This consultation forms part of the ongoing post-Grenfell review of fire safety and building regulations and seeks feedback from industry stakeholders on a range of technical and policy updates.
Key areas under review include:
- Guidance on external wall systems and combustible materials
- Proposals for evacuation lifts in residential buildings above 18m
- Updates relating to existing buildings
- Changes to specialised housing fire safety provisions
- Fire safety considerations for roofs, photovoltaic (PV) systems, and open-sided car parks
The consultation also considers how ADB can be improved in terms of clarity, usability, and proportionality.
