A housing trust in the north-west of England has said that it will be fitting sprinklers to all 17 of the high-rise towers that the organisation manages.

Twelve blocks in Salford and five in Knowsley operated by ForViva, which includes City West Housing Trust and Villages Housing Association, will have sprinkler systems fitted in apartments and communal areas at a cost of £5million.

Fire safety experts and the regional fire and rescue services were consulted about the plans. Work is expected to begin before the end of the year.

Tim Doyle, the group chief executive of ForViva, said, “The safety of customers is an absolute priority for the group. That is why we have taken the decision to carry out this programme of work, which will provide peace of mind for customers living in high-rise blocks.

“We will continue to work with customers throughout the process and make sure they are aware when work will be starting in their homes.”
