Homes evacuated after lightning causes house fire
Several properties were evacuated after a lightning strike is believed to have caused a fire at a residential property in Emersons Green, Bristol.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire at a property on Wadham Grove at approximately 17:55 on Monday evening.
On arrival, crews found the property well alight, with significant fire damage already evident. The incident is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike during thunderstorms that affected the West of England.
Firefighters from Kingswood, Temple, Southmead, Patchway and Portishead fire stations attended the scene. Crews successfully brought the fire under control and extinguished the majority of the blaze.
Firefighters remained in attendance to carry out damping-down operations and monitor the property for any remaining hotspots.
One person sustained injuries near the scene in an incident unrelated to the fire and was subsequently transferred into the care of the ambulance service.
