On 22nd June 1966 the Memo and Articles of Association of the Security and Fire Alarms Systems Association Limited (SaFASA) were signed.

This organisation was to become BFPSA in February 1969 and to join with FETA and become the FIA in April 2007.

When the Certificate of Incorporation, dated 30th June 1966, was issued, we sent notifications to Government Departments, British Standards Institution and relevant professional organisations regarding our formation.

The members of the first council were Sound Diffusion (Installations) Ltd, Burgot Automatic Alarms Ltd/Medewel  Products Ltd, Securitas Alarm Ltd, Bothwell Electrical Supplies (Glasgow) Ltd, the Pyrene Co Ltd, Merryweather & Sons Ltd, the Minerva Detector Co Ltd (chairman), and a Mr Sard, associate member.
