Kentec fire alarm control panels are at the heart of a new fire system that’s protecting the £180m upgrade of London Underground’s (LU) Neasden, North West London train depot - a five-year programme of works that will help London Underground keep its new fleet of trains on the tracks.

Neasden Depot, the largest on the LU network, has been comprehensively upgraded to provide London Underground with a state-of-the-art complex for the cleaning and maintenance of its new S-stock trains, and where whole trains can be raised, allowing mechanics and engineers to work beneath them.

Fire Systems Ltd, who designed, supplied, installed and commissioned the new L1 fire alarm system with integration into a site wide network, designed their system around Kentec Syncro analogue addressable control panels, supported by Hochiki ESP protocol fire data communications.

The size and complexity of the site required a range of different product solutions. To cope with the exceptionally high ceilings of the depot’s sheds aspirating smoke detection (ASD) was specified, in areas where personnel are required to wear ear defenders due to ambient noise, xenon sounder beacons with a voice alarm system were installed.
