Fire at Wembley Ikea Sees Shoppers Safely Evacuated
London Fire Brigade responds swiftly as building solar panels caught fire
Around 250 people were safely evacuated from Ikea’s Wembley store after a fire broke out on the building’s roof on Thursday morning, 16 October 2025.
According to the London Fire Brigade (LFB), approximately 100 solar panels were alight at the Swedish furniture retailer’s premises on Drury Way in north-west London. Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters attended the scene after the first emergency calls were received just after 10:30 BST.
Crews from Park Royal, Wembley, Willesden and North Kensington fire stations were deployed to tackle the blaze. The brigade reported receiving around a dozen calls from members of the public who had seen black smoke rising from the roof.
An LFB spokesperson confirmed that firefighters worked to bring the flames under control before remaining on site to damp down the affected area. There were no reports of injuries.
