The Scottish Government is progressing updates to the Scottish Building Regulations following a public consultation on building standards and fire safety guidance, with particular reference to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report.

The consultation centres on a fundamental review of Section 2 (Fire) of the Scottish Technical Handbooks. It also includes proposals relating to the Compliance Plan Manager role and the wider compliance plan approach, with the overarching aim of strengthening fire safety in both domestic and non-domestic buildings and improving safety for people in and around Scotland’s built environment.

In response to these proposed regulatory changes, the FIA will be holding a Special Interest Group (SIG) to gather member insight and develop an informed FIA position on the consultation outcomes. The SIG will provide an opportunity for members to contribute their expertise, raise practical considerations, and help ensure that any future regulatory updates are robust, proportionate, and deliver meaningful improvements in fire safety.
