Euralarm has released a new fact sheet helping manufacturers of electronic fire safety and security products understand their obligations under the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

Published in November 2024 the CRA introduces requirements for products with digital elements placed on the EU market.

This fact sheet provides guidance on how electronic fire safety and security products are classified under the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). While all in-scope products must meet the Regulation’s essential cybersecurity requirements, certain products require third-party conformity assessment by a notified body.

Categories ‘Important Class I’, Important Class II and Critical all need to meet relevant conformity assessment procedures before placing their products on the EU Market. Whilst ‘default’ class rely on self-assessment.

The document also explains how classification depends on functionality, not presence of security components such as microcontrollers with cryptographic capabilities. Furthermore, this document provides practical examples for smart home security, identity and access management systems.
