BS 750:2023 Underground fire hydrants - Surface Box Frames and Covers Specification is now open for public comment.

BS 750 ensures that surface box frames and covers are designed, manufactured and tested properly so they deliver reliable performance.

The aim of the document is to set clear specifications and performance criteria, helping to maintain reliable hydrant infrastructure that’s essential for public safety and emergency response across the UK.

The revised document provides a technical framework for manufacturers, water companies and Fire and Rescue Services to support durability, compatibility and effective operation.

This document intends to improve clarity in definitions and figures to ensure that the measurement of the coefficient is clearly described as recommended by the Grenfell Tower Inquiry that was published in September 2024.

Additionally, this document looks to strengthen the requirements of third-party verification and certification alongside the delivery of technical specifications, which is created to increase consistency, transparency and accountability across the industry.
