The BAFE Group has announced a restructure designed to strengthen collaboration across the organisation and enhance its support for the fire and life safety sector during a period of significant change.

The new operating model brings BAFE Holdings, the BAFE Fire Safety Register and FireQual into a more closely integrated Group structure, with clearer responsibilities and a shared approach to service delivery.

The restructure is intended to make best use of expertise and resources across the Group, while creating greater capacity to engage and collaborate with industry and other key stakeholders.

As part of the changes, David Barnes has been appointed Technical Manager for BAFE, with responsibility for the operation, monitoring and ongoing performance of BAFE Schemes.

At FireQual, Gillian Lees has been appointed Qualifications Development and Assessment Manager. She will lead the development and assessment of qualifications, supported by Maria Annakin, Qualifications and Assessment Officer, who has responsibility for their ongoing delivery and administration.

The BAFE Group is also recruiting for two new positions: Group Service Delivery Manager and Group Finance Manager.

Leadership changes

The restructure follows a number of changes to the BAFE Group’s leadership in recent years.

Last year, Lewis Ramsay joined the executive leadership team as Chief Operating Officer. Board oversight has also been strengthened through the appointments of Jim Fitzpatrick as Chair of BAFE Holdings, Howard Passey as Chair of BAFE Ltd and Douglas Barnett as Chair of FireQual.

BAFE Schemes

The organisational changes come as BAFE prepares to relaunch several of its Schemes following an extensive programme of review and development. In parallel, FireQual is developing new qualifications aligned with the latest British Standards.

The BAFE Fire Safety Register is an independent organisation that develops and maintains third-party certification schemes for fire safety services across the UK. Working with industry, certification bodies, Government and other stakeholders, BAFE establishes competency requirements that organisations must meet to demonstrate their ability to deliver fire protection services safely and effectively.

Through its Schemes and register of certified organisations, BAFE plays an important role in supporting competence, accountability and confidence across the fire and life safety sector.

The FIA welcomes continued work across the sector to strengthen competence, improve standards and support greater collaboration as the industry responds to evolving regulatory, technical and skills requirements.
