The Fire Industry association (FIA) have released a new technical guidance document for the calculation of extended discharge of both inert and halocarbon fix fire extinguishing systems.

15 March 2024

The design and efficacy of a gaseous fire extinguishing system depends on developing a concentration of agent within the protected enclosure. Loss of agent from the enclosure, due to leakage through uncloseable openings or due to the continued operation of non-recirculating air handling equipment can critically affect the development or maintaining the concentration within the enclosure.  The FIA Guidance is designed to discuss the consequences of these occurrences, provide guidance on how to address the issues, and to give worked examples representing a number of different agent loss scenarios, including calculations to compensate for the losses.
