We are asking FIA members to be on the lookout for "used" heat detectors, particularly any older than five years or any that seem to be contaminated.

Together with several detector manufacturers, we are embarking on a research project to understand the influence of time and contaminants on the performance of heat detectors.

The core aim of the project is to test “used” heat detectors, specifically any older than 5 years or any that appear to be contaminated.

It is anticipated that the results will be influential in supporting changes to codes and standards and thereby improving the integrity of fire safety systems in the built environment.

Key to the project is the acquisition of suitable samples of “used” heat detectors, and we are looking for your assistance.

If you are in a position where you have access to heat detectors that meet the above requirement and are willing to provide them to BRE, then please send an email to Gemma Forbes-Pepitone at BRE with an estimation of how many samples you could provide per month.

All parties providing samples for the test will be acknowledged in the resulting publication.

Please find a Heat Detector Questionnaire for Suppliers here. Please fill out Section 1 as much as feasible for each detector, Section 2 as much as possible for each detector, and Section 3 once for each batch of detectors delivered.

Thank you for your support.
