Servicing & maintenance of portable fire extinguishers (4 Days)

Theoretical training and practical experience over four days for the servicing & maintenance of various types of portable extinguisher. Based on BS 5306-­3 ‘Servicing and Maintenance’, BS 5306­-8 ‘Selecting and Positioning’

What other experience/training is needed to take this course?

  • None

Tools

This course requires each delegate to bring a set of tools to participate:

  • Rubber Hammer / Mallet
  • 10” Adjustable spanner (For co2 horn removal)
  • 1 x 2kg spring balance scale (Used to determine cartridge weight)
  • 1 x Digital scale (These must be suitable for weighing the extinguisher itself. Please ensure the hook at the bottom of the scale is small enough to fit inside the wall hanging bracket of an extinguisher. 25kg Electro Samson scales are commonly used for this purpose)
  • Torch
  • Pliers
  • Cleaning brush (2" paintbrush will work for this)
  • Gauge bradawl tester (Paperclips will work here if an appropriate bradawl cannot be sourced)
  • Anti Tamper Seals
  • Gauge dots / Year patch stickers
  • Cloth

The following is not required but will prove useful for servicing practise:

  • Screwdriver or pick for o-ring removal
  • Co2 O-rings
  • Mole grips
  • Air pump gauge tester (for larger coil sprung gauges found on Older Nu Swift / Moyne Roberts / Amerex products)

  • Delegates take two exams, a theory exam with 65 Questions in a multiple choice format and a practical exam. Both exams require a 75% or above pass mark will be issued with a BAFE certificate. The results take 2-3 to be processed following the day of the exam.

Delegates should attend a refresher course every three years to maintain current knowledge and certification
