A project to install sprinklers in high-rise buildings has begun, involving what is thought to be the largest gas replacement in high-rise tower blocks in the UK.
The project, Core 364, is taking place in Sunderland as part of a £9 million investment into tower blocks.
Fire safety in the buildings will be maximised, with upgraded fire alarm and smoke detection systems, as well as the installation of state-of-the-art sprinkler systems.
Residents in the blocks will also benefit from significant energy bill savings as a result of uniquely heating both their home and water with renewable heat from the Earth’s core.
