The Fire Industry Association (FIA) has unveiled critical guidance on the use of maintenance-free connections in fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with BS 5839-1 standards.
26 March 2024
This Technical Bulletin details the use and application of maintenance-free connectors within fire detection and fire alarm system wiring per the recommendations of BS 5839-1. Some maintenance free connections will not be suitable for use on cables comprising critical signal path due to lower fire resistance and temperature endurance capabilities in comparison with the fire rated duration of cables. This potentially compromises system integrity during a fire event, emphasising the need for suitable fire-resistant connections.
