Yesterday at the House of Commons, the Home Secretary Priti Patel took time out of her busy schedule to meet and thank the organisations that have helped support the Ukrainian humanitarian relief effort. A mission headed by Ukrainian Deputy Internal Affairs Minister Meri Akopyan was arranged by FireAid (the FIA’s chosen charity) so that Government and UK’s F&RS and industry could hear first-hand the problems of the Ukrainian Fire and Rescue Service and how we can help them further. The Deputy Internal Affairs Minister thanked the UK for their efforts so far (especially those in the room that have been influential in making it happen) and our Home Secretary made it clear that the support from the UK Government will continue.
Amongst the contingent were firefighters from Ukraine, Poland and Germany as well as our own who now work closer together than ever before.
Ian Moore, CEO of the FIA (standing directly behind the Home Secretary) said “Minister Akopyan delivered a strong and passionate speech to the Home Secretary about the problems Ukraine are suffering from and thanked the organisations in the room for their remarkable efforts to date. She stated that the UK have delivered more fire engines and equipment than anyone else.”
