In May 2011 the UK government published its Building Information Modelling (BIM) Working Party Strategy.

This report announced the Government's intention to require collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on its projects by 2016.

In essence, BIM is helping to change the industry and how we work through the use of open, sharable asset information. The key objective of it is to achieve better value for money in the creation and care of build assets, reducing the carbon burden from the construction and operation on the built environment.

This government website is packed with all the information you need to know about BIM including very informative videos.

Please contact the FIA if you are interested in getting more information on BIM or if you have any questions.
