Service & Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers (4 days)

Overview
The 2002 FETA survey of portable fire extinguishers noted that of the 2,173 incidents reported, 80% were extinguished before the arrival of the emergency services and that portable extinguishers form the first line of defence both in extinguishing or, once a fire has taken hold, in aiding escape. Portable extinguishers require regular servicing and maintenance and must be sited according to the fire risk.

Based on BS5306 Pt 3, Servicing and Maintenance and Pt 8 Selecting and positioning this course and successful completion of the BAFE Exam will fulfil the training competency requirements for registration on third party certification schemes leading to demonstrable competence under the Fire Safety Order (2005).

Delegates that have successfully completed this course should attend a refresher course every three years to maintain current knowledge and certification.

The Course
This intensive course is run over three days with the BAFE exam taking place on the fourth day and will provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience of carrying out servicing and maintenance of a number of portable extinguisher types. Delegates will learn the theory of fire and of extinguishing, including the fire triangle, fire ratings and flammable materials before moving on to portable extinguishers, selecting and positioning the right extinguisher for the area, carrying out servicing including a hands on period where delegates will be expected to carry out an inspection and service on a range of extinguishers.

This fast paced course trains delegates to the highest standards to enable them to be equiped to deal with all problems they will face within the industry, with technical back up. We do not train to just pass the exam !

Please note; delegates are required to bring a set of tools listed below and that homework will be set every night.
