Unit 5 - Fire Alarm Maintenance
This one day course has been designed for service & maintenance engineers and electricians who work on fire detection and alarm systems to BS 5839 Part 1 (2002). It may also be of benefit to facilities managers as the new Code of Practice contains revised recommendations on maintenance that they need to be aware of. Delegates enrolling for Unit 5 must first have attended Unit 1 – Fire Detection Design.

The responsibilities and competence of the maintenance engineer
Liaison with the user
Investigating false alarms
Routine procedures for testing
Testing detectors and field devices
Testing circuits
Testing systems
Testing power supplies and measuring current loadings
Calculating battery capacity and testing batteries
Documenting the results on service report forms and log books
Servicing certificate and recommended action

During the course delegates will sit short tests and those attaining an average 75% pass mark will be awarded an FIA nationally recognised certificate.
