Unit 1 - Fire Detection Design

This is an intensive one-day course aimed at sales engineers and others requiring an understanding of the basic principles allowing them to progress to the more advance courses. All delegates are strongly advised to complete and pass this Unit before proceeding further with the FIA modular training scheme.  However, for those not wishing to progress further the Fire Detection Design Course stands alone, covering the essential aspects and requirements of BS5839 part 1 (2002).

Course prices: £150 per delegate (FIA Members); £225 per delegate (Non Members). Prices exlcude VAT which will be applied at the current rate.

The course covers:

  • Fire safety legislation
  • Guides and codes of practice relevant to fire detection and alarms
  • The categories of systems for a building (i.e. L1 to L5 : P1 to P2)
  • Detector types and where they should be used
  • Manual call point zones
  • Detector and alarm zone sizes and constraints
  • Technology and system components
  • Detector coverage, taking into account obstructions
  • Sounder requirements
  • False alarm management and good maintenance
  • New cabling requirements

    During the course delegates will sit short tests and those attaining an average 75% pass mark will be awarded an FIA nationally recognised certificate.
