The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), working together with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) and fire and rescue services across England, leads the long-running Fire Kills campaign. This national initiative focuses on helping households stay safe from preventable fires in the home.
The Fire Kills campaign raises awareness of the everyday fire risks that can be present in any home and encourages people, particularly those who are most vulnerable, to take simple, lifesaving steps such as installing more smoke alarms throughout their property and testing them regularly. With more than a third of domestic fires failing to trigger an alarm in time, the campaign highlights the importance of having multiple working alarms to ensure families are fully covered. More information and resources can be found at the official campaign website: https://firekills.campaign.gov.uk/.
Households can also access practical, personalised guidance through the free Online Home Fire Safety Check, developed through a partnership between the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), Fire Kills and Safelincs.
As a proud partner of the Fire Kills campaign, the Fire Industry Association is supporting this national effort by promoting MHCLG’s fire safety messages across the fire protection sector and the wider community. By helping to amplify key guidance and best practice, the FIA aims to ensure more households understand how to prevent fires, detect them early, and escape safely.
