Brexit = No Exit From GDPR

02 February 2018

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the new framework for data protection laws that are being enforced by the European Union. It replaces the previous 1995 Data Protection Directive, which current UK law is based upon.

The new GDPR regulation will strengthen and unify data protection for individuals, whilst addressing the export of personal data outside the EU.

The new regulation starts on 25 May 2018. It will be enforced by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

The ICO has confirmed that its strategy presumes GDPR will be assumed into UK law before the exit of the United Kingdom from Europe to ensure there is certainty about UK law afterwards.

Any companies that are not already fully compliant with GDPR must act now to make sure they are ready for the May 2018 deadline.

If you are not yet aware of GDPR, we strongly encourage you to refer to the further details at the Information Commissioner Website, which contains guidance and advice on the subject.
