Lower per square metre cost saved refurbishment money

The Guardian newspaper has claimed that Omnis Exteriors, the company whose aluminium composite material cladding was affixed to the exterior of Grenfell Tower, says that a version was specified that is not fire resistant.

Reynobon PE cladding, which was the material used, was specified in preference to the company’s FR (for fire resistant) product. The PE version is, according to a director of Omnis, £2 per square metre cheaper.

It is suspected that the exterior cladding was instrumental in the rapid spread of the fire that killed at least 30 people in the tower block.
