Emergency Lighting to BS 5266-1 (2 Days)

This two-day course on BS 5266-1 covers design, installation, verification and ongoing maintenance of emergency lighting systems. The course outcome is a Firequal level 3 Qualifcation.

  • Any engineer with a basic knowledge of safety systems who wants to improve their knowledge of the requirements and techniques to cover the design, installation, verification and ongoing maintenance of emergency lighting systems
  • Engineers who are responsible for emergency lighting systems wanting to be able to assess and demonstrate the suitability and condition of the system for a specific site
  • Those delegtes looking for a Level 3 Qualifcation
  • Should have an electrical background and knowledge of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
  • Basic knowledge of lamps and light fittings

Understanding Of 5266-1:

  • Legislative requirements and user responsibilities
  • Code of Practice for emergency lighting
  • Design of points of emphasis, exit signs, escape routes, open areas, and high-risk task areas
  • Local area lighting for occupied premises
  • Factors affecting system compliance and acceptance
  • Risk assessment and location protection

At the end of the course, delegates will take an examination to test their knowledge. During the exam, delegates are allowed access to a copy of BS 5266-1: 2025. No other reference material will be allowed; delegates should only use BS 5266-1:2025.

For courses that take place within the classroom environment, a copy of BS 5266-1: 2025 will be provided for their use; this copy must be returned upon completion of the exam and must not leave the room.

For courses taking place on-line, delegates will need to have access to a copy of BS 5266-1: 2025. This copy can either be a hard copy or a digital pdf copy.

Delegates taking the course will receive a course book at the start of each unit. The course book will contain a copy of the slides used during the course, along with an explanation to accompany each slide and space to make their own learner notes. These books are to be retained by the delegates and are a useful reference tool for the work place.

For courses that take place within the classroom environment, a hard copy of the course notes will be provided at the start of the course. For courses taking place on-line, delegates will have access to the course notes digitally. Following the completion of the course delegates will be contacted and have the option to receive a hard copy of the course book in the post. Details on how to access the digital course book will be provided within the course invitation e-mail. Delegates will need to set up access to the digital course book prior to the start of the course.

  • A level 3 Qualification is achieved on successful completion of the exam at the end of the course
  • Engineers will gain the knowledge and understanding to be able to provide advice on emergency lighting, design a lighting scheme and be able to install, verify and ongoing maintainence as required including also fault rectification and associated certification
  • Engineers will be able to audit an existing system, provide advice on routine maintenance and to carry out periodic and remedial servicing
  • Is accepted as part of the BAFE SP203-4 scheme.
