Essex venue announced for care home fire safety seminar
The seminar, organised by the Fire Industry Association (FIA) in conjunction with the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA), is to be presented at Colchester United Football Club and is expected to be particularly well attended given the high concentration of care homes located in London and the surrounding counties.
Supported by the Essex Fire & Rescue Service, 'Fire Safety in Care Homes' is free to attend and is designed to provide care home managers, premises owners, building designers and consultants working in this sector with information to assist them in ensuring effective fire safety management protection for residents and staff.
Graham Ellicott, CEO of the FIA comments - "Those who live in care homes can be particularly vulnerable to the threat from fire. Immobility, disabilities, mental incapacity and the effects of medication can all affect a resident's ability to be safely are aware of how such factors can be accommodated in their fire protection measures. The needs of staff also have to be borne in mind, particularly given that they are often required to help the residents in the event of a fire."
The joint FIA and BAFSA seminars are now in their third year, with events having been staged at strategic locations throughout the UK to ensure the fire safety message gets through to as many care homes as possible.
In addition to care homes, the FIA is also focusing on fire safety in sleeping accommodation (hotels and guest houses) and warehouses, with six seminars scheduled for 2010.
