Do you credit check your customer?

17 Feb 2010

Knowing your customers is important, particularly if you’re extending credit. Make sure you know about their cash flow problems, before their cash flow problems become yours.
Whether you’re just starting a relationship with a new customer, or have been dealing with them for years, it’s vital to have a thorough understanding of your customers’ situation.

As part of FIA Cash Flow (FIA member benefit), you can credit check businesses for just £8, a saving of almost 50% of the retail price.

So why credit check?

A credit report contains useful information on their trading history, credit history and financial history. They also provide a credit rating and limit and give you details on the Directors’ other companies.

Also for as little as £7.50 per 5 businesses per year (that’s the equivalent of just £1.50 per business) you can monitor a business for daily changes in their key business data.
Business Status Monitoring gives you regular information about a business, including finding out if they’ve been served with a County Court Judgement (CJJ). This will tell you that they owe money to other creditors and might not be able to pay you for services. You can decide to stop their credit or even to stop dealing with them altogether.
You can also find out when a business changes its directors or shareholders and when they have filed their accounts, useful if you want to look at them for your own peace of mind.
