Rotherham factory destroyed in blaze

12 Jan 2012

An envelope factory in Rotherham has been completely destroyed after a fire tore through the premises earlier this week.

Fire safety crews were called to the Envelope Master plant in Aldwarke at 10.40pm on Tuesday (10th January).

At the height of the fire, around 60 firefighters were at the site and managed to stop the nearby Candle Craft and Tech Spray industrial units suffering major damage.

Rick Rolt, station manager at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "When I arrived I thought there was no way they would save those buildings but they did - there are people going to work in them this morning.

"Those neighbouring buildings suffered only minor damage, such as fascia damage."

All night shift staff at the factory were evacuated safely, and there have been no reports of any injuries at the incident.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is due to be carried out.
