Industrial oven blaze strikes Watford business park
A business park in Watford had to be evacuated after an industrial oven caught fire on the site.
Fire crews were called to tackle the blaze at the industrial estate in Tolpits Lane at around 2.30pm on 11th January, reports the Watford Observer.
Firefighters battled the flames, which were pouring out of the ten foot by 15 foot cooker, for around two hours.
Crew commander at Watford Fire Station Neil Nash revealed that six members of staff had to be evacuated from the building.
He told the news provider: "Our biggest problem was the amount of steam being created when we tried to put it out. The oven was obviously so hot that we had to make sure the water was actually putting the flames out."
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a 'suitable and sufficient' fire risk assessment must be conducted on all commercial properties in England and Wales.
If the fire risk assessment is deemed to be carried out to an insufficient extent, the Responsible Person can face an unlimited fine or a prison sentence of up to two years.
