Croydon leather shop hit by fire
A leather shop in Croydon has been damaged after a fire broke out in the premises in the early hours of this morning (30th January).
Six fire engines were called to Just Leathers in North End at around midnight to tackle the blaze, which broke out at the back of the shop, reports Your Local Guardian.
Firefighters took around an hour to extinguish the flames but were unable to prevent the fire causing substantial damage to the store.
One firefighter from Croydon fire station told the news provider: "There was a lot of damage where the fire actually broke out.
"The buildings on either side, RBS [Royal Bank of Scotland] and Centrale, were full of smoke."
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a fire risk assessment must be conducted on all commercial properties in England and Wales.
If a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is not carried out, the Responsible Person faces up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine.
The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
