Cornwall fire chiefs consider relocating services to new £6m hub

10 Jan 2012

Fire chiefs in Cornwall have launched a consultation on plans to relocate two fire stations in the county to a new £6 million emergency services hub.

Under the proposals, the Camborne and Redruth stations would be closed and their operations be moved to a new facility in Pool - a town which is deemed equidistant between the two. The new hub would serve Redruth, Camborne and Pool, while another station would be built in Hayle.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) claim the move will help them attend incidents more quickly. The brigade is currently able to REACh 44 per cent of the local population in under ten minutes but it states that this proportion could rise to 65 per cent if the new hub is built.

Paul Walker, deputy chief fire officer for CFRS said: "Providing one community fire station in the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area and one in Hayle will significantly improve our emergency response capability in this area and increase our capacity to target and deliver our community safety resources in the areas of most need."

Consultation on the plans is due to begin on January 16th, with the findings reported back in June this year.
