Care home fire in Coventry caused by oven
A man had to be rescued from a care home in the West Midlands after a fire in the early hours of the morning.
Firefighters were called to the house of multiple occupancy ( HMO ) at around 1.00, according to the Coventry Telegraph.
The fire started in an oven on the first floor of the building. The man was taken to the nearby University Hospital for further treatment, after being given oxygen at the scene.
George Rowley House is a care home for the elderly, based in the neighbourhood of Canley, south-west Coventry.
The Responsible Person for all HMOs and commercial properties in England and Wales must conduct a fire risk assessment on their building.
If this fire risk assessment is not properly conducted, or if it is not carried out at all, the Responsible Person faces a fine or up to two years in prison.
