Barn blaze in Scotland treated as suspicious
A blaze which destroyed £10,000 worth of straw bales at a barn in Scotland is being treated as suspicious by police.
Fire crews were called to the building in Turriff, Aberdeenshire, at around 3am on Tuesday (24th January) and discovered a well-developed fire upon their arrival.
It is estimated that a total of 100 bales were destroyed in the conflagration.
Constable Blake Summers of the Turriff policing team told STV News: "We are treating the blaze as having been started deliberately at this time.
"Given the relatively remote location it is suspected that the person responsible must have had some form of transport."
A 'suitable and sufficient' fire risk assessment must be conducted on all commercial properties in Scotland under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.
If this fire risk assessment is judged to have not been carried out to a suitable extent, the Duty Holder for the establishment can face up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine.
