Service & Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers - Refresher course

Overview
British Standards and working codes of practice are amended and change regularly; developments in technologies will not only improve how a piece of equipment functions but also improve performance, operation and requirements for servicing and maintenance. BS5306 recommends that technicians involved in the servicing and maintenance of portable extinguishers undergo regular refresher training to ensure that their knowledge and skills remain current with prevailing legislation and guidelines.

Completion of a refresher course will culminate in a certificate which provides the evidence of training and competence for third party certification schemes.

The Course
This intensive course is run over one day and will provide delegates with an update on changes in legislation or standards, knowledge and understanding of developments in extinguisher technology and changes in working practices. From the start the trainer will identify the level of knowledge in the room and ensure that all delegates gain a full understanding of the current legislation and practices.

Who should attend?
Anyone that has already completed the three-day training and an exam in the servicing and maintenance of portable extinguishers; it is recommended that refresher training is carried out at a minimum of every three years. This course is open to technicians and those involved in providing help and advise on portable extinguishers including sales staff.

This course should not be used in substitution of the three-day course and exam.

Programme
The course is regularly updated and amended to ensure that the information included is correct to current legislation, guidelines and equipment technologies. The trainer will carry out an assessment of the level of knowledge and understanding among the delegates to ensure that all attending will gain a comprehensive understanding on the changes made over the prevailing period.

Outcome
All course delegates will be provided with a comprehensive manual covering the material included in the course and additional support material, serving as a valuable point of reference following completion of training. The initial assessment included in the course will allow the trainer to identify current understanding, monitor progress and provide additional assistance to learning where required, helping to ensure delegate gain a broad understanding of current legislation.
