Description

This one day course has been designed for service and maintenance engineers and electricians who work on fire detection and alarm systems to BS 5839 Part 1 (2002).   It may also be of interest to facilities managers as the new Code of Practice contains revised recommendations on maintenance over a 12 month period.

Delegates wishing to attend Unit 5 must first have attended Unit 1, Fire Detection Design.

This Unit includes:

  • A section on false alarms and how to assist the user in avoidance
  • The responsibilities and competence of the maintenance engineer
  • Liaison with the user

  • Testing detectors and field devices
  • Testing circuits
  • Testing systems
  • Testing power supplies, measuring current loadings
  • Calculating battery capacity, testing batteries
  • Documenting the results on service report forms and log books
  • Servicing certificate and recommended action
