One person taken to hospital following Surrey garage blaze
One person has been taken to hospital following a fire at a garage in Surrey.
Fire crews were called to Evans Autos in North Cheam at around 2.30pm yesterday (25th January), reports the Surrey Comet.
Six fire engines and 30 fire fighters tackled the blaze, which affected nine garages behind a car dealership on London Rd. Sixty residents living in nearby flats were evacuated as a precaution and are not expected to be allowed back into their properties for another 24 hours.
One person was taken to St Helier hospital for treatment on minor injuries suffered during the incident.
A fire risk assessment - which aims to identify and negate any fire hazards - must be conducted on all commercial properties in England and Wales, in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
If a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is not carried out, the Responsible Person faces up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine.
