Description

'Moving Fire into Top Gear'

The FIA annual conference in association with Moyne Roberts brings together both members and non-members from the fire industry, providing a forum to discuss all the latest key issues and topics affecting the fire safety community.

The 2012 conference will feature presentations covering the latest information and discussion on all the important topics in your area, whether it’s portable extinguishing, fire detection and alarm, third party certification, false alarms, environmental or fire risk assessment. Whatever your area of expertise there is something of interest for you on the day. Keynote speaker on the day will be Brian Robinson, Chairman of the Fire Sector Partnership, who will provide an insight into the Partnership's activities.

Seminars include:

Discharge of Foam Extinguishers: environmental and disposal issues
BS5306-3 requires all foam extinguishers to be discharged every five years. However, as the foam contains fluorine water regulations do not permit its discharge to drain. The FIA has been investigating the issues surrounding this and this seminar and has drafted a guidance document taking into account the trade effluent regulations and its understanding of the issues of concern.

As part of the drafting process the Association has been looking to obtain acceptance of the guidance and their interpretation of the regulations from the Water Undertakers. This presentation will explain the current state of these discussions and more.

BS 5839-9: Emergency Evacuation Voice Communication
This seminar will cover the new Code of Practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of emergency voice communication systems, including discussion about the rationale behind the revision, what the changes are and what it means for the fire alarm company.

The Changing Face of False Alarms
2011 saw a lot of activity around false alarms, from the introduction of the CFOA Protocol, the FIA ’s Memorandum of Understanding with CFOA and Fire & Rescue Services across the UK reviewing their policies on attending automated fire alarms. This seminar takes a look at the affect all this has had and what we can expect to see in 2012.

FRA Third Party Certification and Competency
This seminar provides the latest news in the industry’s quest for Third Party Certification for fire risk assessment, as well as the much debated question of competency.

Counterfeit Cables
With costs going up there has been a marked increase in counterfeit cable available in the marketplace. This presentation will look at the issues surrounding this potentially dangerous topic and will provide guidance on how to spot counterfeits before it’s too late.

Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems
Alan will present on the LPC Panel for kitchen fire suppression systems.

Collected & Perceived Insights into and Application of RRFSO for Enforcing Authorities
Jonathan will present a summary of this recently published CFOA report.

F-Gas
An update on the latest with regards to F-Gas, including where the European Commission sees the development of the regulation and the possible impacts for the UK fire protection industry.

Potential Criminal Liability of Fire Risk Assessor’s
A case study of the prosecution of a Fire Risk Assessor

BS 5839-1 in a World with EN 54-14 and ISO 7240-14: what does the future hold?
In this topical presentation, the current status of BS 5839-1 will be reviewed from several angles. Firstly, from a nationalistic viewpoint, the current work on revising the code will be summarised. Secondly, from a European viewpoint, the recent publication of prEN 54-14 will be considered; particularly in relation to its potential impact on BS 5839-1 if it is published as an EN. Finally, the potential benefits of the recently published draft International Standard (DIS 7240-14) will be discussed – particularly in relation to international and export projects.
