Our core values are:

- to provide an open, transparent and equal forum for members regardless of size
There are three categories of Membership within the FIA :
• Ordinary Membership
• Associate Membership
• Overseas Membership
Ordinary Membership
The FIA represents the fire protection industry promoting best practice in all aspects of business.Members are expected to abide by the Leadership Statement and act in the best interest of the industry in the widest sense. It is incumbent on all manufacturing or supply companies to be BS EN ISO 9001 registered or equivalent.
Those engaged in the design, installation, commissioning, handover and/or maintenance of fire alarm, detection and extinguishing systems must hold the relevant modules of SP 203 or equivalent [LPS 1014, LPS 1204].
Those engaged in the contract maintenance of portable fire extinguishers must obtain SP101/ST104.
Those engaged in providing Fire Risk Assessments are currently expected to provide evidence that their assessors are competent, in addition to some outline quality management system documents detailed on the FRA page. In the longer term, we are working towards basing membership on third party certification to a UKAS accredited fire risk assessment company scheme.
Any company unable to demonstrate the above criteria should contact the FIA to discuss as help and possible probationary membership is available.
Associate Membership
Membership is open to individuals who have skill, knowledge or technical expertise within the fire industry and whose aims are commensurate with those of the FIA and do not work for a company that would be eligible for Ordinary membership.
Associate Members have full access to all FIA technical, marketing and training information and benefits. They are also entitled to participate on working groups and committees. There are restrictions to this type of membership as they are not subjected to any 3rd party certification. They are also not entitled to promote themselves under the FIA banner or be included in the FIA directory. The main benefit for being an Associate member is access to Fire industry related information.
Overseas Membership
Membership is open to manufacturers, designers, installers and maintainers of fire protection systems who are based outside the UK mainland and who have no permanent UK base.
